The article “Five tips for effectively integrating AI into your business” in the SME Portal points out that artificial intelligence represents an opportunity for SMEs, particularly in areas such as marketing, customer relations, production and recruitment. However, a 2024 study carried out by HEG Geneva, Oracle and Colombus Consulting reveals that many companies are struggling to integrate AI into their strategy in a practical way. It is essential to identify use cases that are adapted to the specific needs of the company, because the most popular AI tools are not necessarily the most effective in every context.
For example, generative AI such as ChatGPT or Dall-E, although powerful, may prove too general or too resource-intensive for some SMEs. Conversely, simpler tools that are specialised or fed with internal data are often more relevant. We recommend starting with pilot projects before rolling out on a larger scale. Employee training also plays a key role in the appropriation of these tools and helps to allay any fears associated with their use. At the same time, companies need to establish clear rules for their use, notably on confidentiality and ethics. They must also guard against the legal risks associated with AI, for example in terms of copyright.
By applying these recommendations, SMEs can take advantage of AI while limiting the risks.
